If
you're a teacher or automotive instructor, you know that books, slide
shows, and written tests are no substitute for hands-on experience.
That's why ATS designed a unique training simulator,
ETrainer; the only engine simulator with hundreds of
faults that lets students test live electrical/electronic circuits.
The ETrainer
simulator is a test console where common powertrain components are
wired together in live circuits. What makes it unique and so valuable
to teachers is that ETrainer randomizes
circuit faults. After each “hand” is played, ETrainer
“reshuffles the deck.” Students are presented with multiple
problems that move randomly around the test console. This forces them
to rethink test strategies and select the best test procedure -- on
the fly.
Students
learn to play the hand they're dealt, and win.
Learn
Safely, Comfortably
-
Since
students work in a comfortable upright position, they are not distracted
by physical discomfort caused by bending over a hot engine or crawling
under a dashboard. (There's time for that later.) Students think
more about the lesson; less about their sore backs and stiff necks.
-
ETrainer
also provides a safe learning environment. No need to worry about
hazards like cars falling from lifts or accidents caused by spinning
fan blades. Control your classes; maximize teaching time.
-
Use
ETrainer for skills assessment: use hands-on testing
to evaluate hands-on learning.
Ready to
Roll
Ever spent an hour
or more “bugging” a car with a single fault, and then testing
it? Sure you have. Now imagine trying to duplicate ETrainer's
multiple, randomized fault list on that same car. Life's too short for
that.
ETrainer
saves hours of lesson prep. It comes ready to use. Just plug it in to
any standard wall outlet and get started. Instructor and student manuals
are included.
Control
your classroom and improve instructional quality with ETrainer.
Automotive
Test Solution's ETRAINER™ with FAULTMASTER™
Technology has solved America's problem of training both today's and
tomorrow's mechanics to understand and repair automotive computer
systems. This stand-alone automotive simulator features all major
electrical engine components interacting with each other, just as
they do in an actual running engine! When a fault or failure is programmed
into the ETRAINER at the touch of a button, the PCM
commands and wave forms respond as they would in a typical engine
with the problem. Using ETRAINER , the beginner as
well as the advanced student, will soon be able to troubleshoot computer
problems like a pro!
ETRAINER is the most unique electrical simulator
available today!
Automotive
Test Solution's microprocessor was specifically designed
and programmed for the ETRAINER magic black box!
The exclusive FAULTMASTER Technology has been in
development for more than six years years and is now ready to teach
America's mechanics how to troubleshoot and repair automotive electronics.
FAULTMASTER
Technology can simulate hundreds of faults which include: power circuit,
ground circuit, open circuit, short circuit, battery, charging system,
lamp, relay, electric motor, no cranking, no start, OBDII coded drivability,
no coded drivability, and intermittent drivability faults as well
as emission and data bus failures, PCM failures and PCM resets...
and many more simulated faults, failures and problems.
ETrainer’s
RS-232 port enables future updates to be downloaded into ETrainer’s
advanced microprocessor using your computer and cable (supplied with
ETrainer).
The
first stage of training
are the light circuits. Lamp luminosity is the best way to illustrate
both Ohm's and Kirchhoff's law. Real problems with the lamp circuit
can be viewed visually on the board by lamp brilliance
(see photo left). Then the student checks the circuit with a DVOM
which reinforces the basic electrical laws. Once the student is familiar
with these basic laws then they can move on to ETrainer's
more challenging electrical relay motor circuits (see overview photo,
center section).

-
A
DVOM and oscilloscope
can be used on all circuits and test points.
-
The
AMP probe wave forms include: Injector, EGR Solenoid, Ignition
Coil, & Fuel Pump and they can all be faulted.
-
There
are 101 test point positions on the ETrainer
board and they are laid out like a wiring diagram in an electrical
schematic.
-
These
test points are designated by three colors: Black (ground),
Red (power) and White (inputs and outputs).
-
Actual
engine parts are used on the simulator and can be tested
just as in an actual vehicle.
-
Engine
Coolant Temperature Sensor, a 2-wire type negative thermistor
coolant sensor.
-
Fuel
Injector is saturation type which is controlled by mathematical
calculation program - it also has a peak and hold pattern.
-
Exhaust
Gas Recirculation EGR Solenoid,
it is controlled by PCM duty cycle.
-
Jumper
Pin opens and closes circuit for diagnostic procedure.
-
Crank
Trigger is a magnetic reluctance position sensor.. Cam
Trigger is a hall effect position sensor.. both triggers
can be hand turned or engine driven.
-
Ignition
Module is an electronic spark control module.
-
Program
Control Knob controls the display panel reading.
-
Spark
Plug, weak or no spark can be seen in the open gap.
-
O2
Heater relay, controlled by PCM, pulls primary circuit
to gnd.
-
O2
Sensor, heated zirconia Oxide sensor, realistc wave form.
Engine Coolant Control Knob controls ECT input
to the PCM.
-
Throttle
Position Sensor,
three-wire potentiometer, signals throttle angularity.
-
Fuel
Pump Relay, controlled by PCM or by toggle switch, PCM
sends battery voltage to the primary circuit.
-
Fuel
Pump Motor, controlled by relay circuit, simulates any
type relay motor.
-
Manifold
Absolute Pressure Sensor,
strain gauge type sensor, sends realistic voltage wave form to
PCM.
-
Programing
Control Panel, four buttons used for controlling the
input of hundreds of faults, problems, failures and resets.
-
Ignition
Coil, step up transformer controlled by the ignition
module.
-
Toggle
Switches, pull up / pull down circuits.
-
-
-
Battery,
voltage can be controlled for faults.
